This is available in two versions – the shorter Coffee Break talk at 20-30 minutes (£30) and the longer version at 45-50 minutes (£45).

The pilots of the First World War were both predator and preyed upon by their opponents.  This talk is an entertaining exploration of the young daredevils of the Royal Flying Corps and the life they led using newspaper accounts and eye-witness testimonies.

Note: At the beginning of the war the Air Services were divided into two very separate arms – the Royal Flying Corps under the Army and the Royal Naval Air Service under the Navy.  To some extent the roles of the two were different and this is explored in my other talk “In Defence of the Realm”.
